St Peter’s are very proud to be members of North Star and Polaris Teaching School Alliances. North Star and Polaris formed a unique partnership in 2016 to support school improvement across North Yorkshire and work with around 70 primary schools in the region. Our collective aim is to improve outcomes for all children through a self-sustaining, dynamic system of school improvement and support across North Yorkshire and beyond. '

Welcome to Class 2

A warm welcome back to school from me, Mr Joy (class teacher), and from the children of Class 2. Our bright, welcoming classroom is designed to be a hands-on environment for the children, allowing them to approach their learning in a variety of different ways. I aim to encourage the children to take control of their own learning by giving them a wide variety of choices and engaging tasks, setting them high expectations in the process. This ensures that their learning is memorable, exciting and fulfilling!

Class 2 will be supported by Mrs Holmes, our higher level Teaching Assistant and also Mrs Tyreman general Teaching Assistant.

Our learning follows the National Curriculum requirements for Year 3 and 4, focusing our learning on English and Maths in the mornings and non-core subjects in the afternoons. Staying active, we have two P.E. sessions a week where the children are encouraged not only to learn about different sports and disciplines, but also about how to stay healthy and the benefits of exercise. As a Christian school, the children are invited to explore their own spirituality in weekly R.E. and PSHCE sessions. We foster a strong sense of mutual understanding, tolerance, and individuality that helps to make this a happy environment for both children and staff.

I always aim to provide opportunities for the children to learn in new ways and in new environments which provides the children with exciting learning opportunities. This term, we are planning to take the children to an Egyptian workshop in Harrogate (further details to follow.)

Mrs Williams will be teaching Class 2 on Fridays, and we will also have a PE session with our specialist Sports coach, Cailtyn Bates, and a singing lesson with Mrs Laity on Friday afternoons.  We are very lucky to have Mrs Holmes and Mrs Tyreman as our teaching assistants in Class 2, and to have our classroom helper, Mrs. East, come in to hear the children read every day.

In Class 2, we have a desire to push learning forward, help one another and to always try our very best. This makes Class 2 a fantastic place to work and learn in every day.

We kick off our start, our new academic year with an exciting and busy term ahead! Please feel free to pop in after school and say hello or arrange a time to meet if you have any questions about your child’s education. You are also all welcome at 3pm on a Friday to come to our School Celebration Assembly in the Hall where children share good work and achievements.

Please see below for further detail about our learning this term:

Class 2 Autumn topic: The Mummy Returns!

Class 2 will be going on an exciting journey back to the time of the Pharaohs with our topic: The Mummy Returns!. We have set our sights on learning about Egyptian society, inventions and pyramids. We will also be making our own Egyptian necklaces and papyrus paper, as well as looking at different Egyptian folk tales as part of English. We will finish the unit by looking at what the Egyptians did for us.

English

In English this term, the children will be developing their story-telling skills to create their own Egyptian folk tale – linking with our topic. We will also be looking at instruction and explanation texts, information texts and different types of poetry, as well as writing letters to Father Christmas!

Science

The children will be exploring the topic Animals including Humans. First, we will explore the importance of eating a healthy diet, as well as looking at different muscles and bones. As part of this topic, the children will take on the role of personal trainers!

Our next topic is States of Matter which will involve the children looking at different solids, liquids and gases. As part of this topic, we will be looking at how and why bread (Egyptian) rises.

This term has lots of food for thought!

P.E

P.E sessions this term will take place on Monday and Friday. On Monday, P.E will be an outdoor session of football, then hockey after half term. On Fridays, Class 2 will be taken by an external PE coach for tag rugby and then netball after half term.

Numeracy

During the term, we will develop our knowledge of number work, timetables and mental fluency during our daily warm up. We will start the term looking at place value. Following this, we will develop our understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will be solving challenging problems linked to all these areas of learning, developing useful strategies to help us solve these in the process.

Computing

Over the coming term, we will be developing our skills in writing emails, learning about websites and searching the internet safely.

French

This term in French, the children will be learning about body parts and days/month of the year.
