North Star Alliance

St Peter’s are very proud to be members of North Star and Polaris Teaching School Alliances. North Star and Polaris formed a unique partnership in 2016 to support school improvement across North Yorkshire and work with around 70 primary schools in the region. Our collective aim is to improve outcomes for all children through a self-sustaining, dynamic system of school improvement and support across North Yorkshire and beyond. '

Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship

At St Peter’s CE VA Primary School we aim to develop successful learners who have the qualities and attributes they need to manage their lives, fulfil their academic potential, and to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society, both now and in the future. We believe the teaching and learning of our PSHE sessions supports and upholds this vision.

The PSHE programme is reviewed and evaluated regularly to ensure provision is relevant, up-to-date and of the highest quality. Our curriculum is through a whole school approach which is split into 6 core themes across the year:

Me and My Relationship

Keeping Myself Safe

My Healthy Lifestyle

Me and My Future

Becoming an active citizen

Moving on

The aims of PSHE education within St Peter’s CE VA Brafferton Primary School are to provide children with:

  • accurate and relevant knowledge
  • opportunities to create personal understanding
  • opportunities to explore and challenge a range of values, attitudes, beliefs, rights and responsibilities
  • a range of skills and strategies to live a healthy, safe, fulfilling, responsible and balanced life.

PSHE deals with the diverse beliefs, values and attitudes that individuals and societies hold. They help pupils to develop themselves, their understanding of the world, and their ability to communicate their feelings. PSHE helps children to acquire British values and attitudes which are necessary if they are to make sense of their experiences within school and life itself, value themselves, respect others, appreciate differences and diversity and feel confident and informed as a British citizen.

As a school, we aim to enrich the lives of our children by providing them with the skills and opportunities to apply their learning within and beyond the curriculum. PSHE underpins our school ethos and is delivered as a rolling programme from Reception to Year 6. It also includes a multi-agency approach.

Through PSHE, we believe we can enhance children’s education and help them become caring, respectful and confident individuals.
