Key Stages

Key stages are the groups that have been set up to administer progressive, standardised exams during a child’s education in England and Wales. Each key stage consists of a certain range of school years. The exams associated with each key stage show how a pupil is doing in the areas of study that have been defined as targets in the National Curriculum. Your child’s teacher will know what these targets are, and will make sure those topics have been covered in the classroom. Please do ask the Teachers at St peters for this information if you require it.

Key Stage 1

Key Stage 1 is the legal term for the two years of schooling in all Primary schools in England and Wales where pupils are aged between 5 and 7 and is normally known as Year 1 and Year 2

Key Stage 2

Key Stage 2 is the legal term for the four years of schooling in Primary schools in England and Wales where pupils are aged between 7 and 11 and is normally known as Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6.
